Portraits and Self-Portrait tips and ideas

  1. Think about your motivation and emotions: Blankly staring at the camera rarely gets good results. Be silly, don’t be afraid to over-act. The worst that can happen is that you fill up your memory card with useless photos; but you might also find yourself with a proper gold-nugget of a self portrait.
  2. Have fun with it. Be sexy. Be yourself. Be awesome. Be different. Be creative. Whatever you do, have fun with it. That’s part of the point, after all.
  3. There are several ways to be unobtrusive. The first thing, of course, is to determine what you want to photograph. Perhaps you see a stall in a market that is particularly colorful, a park bench in a beautiful setting—whatever has attracted you. Find a place to sit or stand that gives you a good view of the scene, take up residence there, and wait for the elements to come together in a way that will make your image.
ENVIRONMENTAL PORTRAIT
This  is the first environmental picture that I chose. I really like it because it took a lot of work to come up with such an idea and it is a really rare subject in circulation.

In this other picture I like the fact that is a black & white picture of a woman working in China.
It made me suddenly feel how difficult is the life in the rural parts of China.
It is a really powerful picture.

SELF-PORTRAIT

I like this portrait of Robert Mapplethorpe, because looks like is being himself:he is just smoking a cigarette with a confusing expression.

Now, I like this portrait because the photographer used a mirror which is always effective in taking these kind of pics.
I think she has done a really good job.

CASUAL PORTRAITS

This portrait is awesome. This little kid pose for this picture and it made the portrait so simple and sweet with the innocence of a baby.

I really like this portrait for the background; the photographer did a great job in including 4 guys in an environmental portrait making it look like an elaborate picture.

WHAT I WILL DO
I want to shoot a self -portrait because I can work with the imagination, since I don't have to include random people. I will try to use a mirror effect, including a mirror or even a window.I would take this picture in the hall.

The other option is to make an environmental portrait in the yard. I will use nature to come up with a good print.
