Sports/actions more details

1.Alyssa Schukar-stories(eating disorders,poor people,sadness in general)
PROBLEMS:
  • pictures are similar distant-wise
  • the pictures don't attract the juges's emotions
  • not enough strong angles
LIKES:
  • the athlete falling picture
  • the guy cleaning the street picture
2.
STRENGHTS:
  • colors
  • composition
  • pictures are tight
  • there is action in the pictures
MY OPINION:
  • composition and action in the pictures
3. Pictures don't have blanks, they follow a storyline, documentary stuff in the pictures, diversity

-----PART 2-----
1. I agree with the judges one the first picture because the leading lines converge in the center of the picture creating dynamicism.
2. I don't agree with the judges on the picture with the surfer falling into the ocean: the angle is pretty good and I prefr the fact that the surfer is not hitting the water because it creates more action in the picture.

JAPAN'S DEVASTATION

This picture is symbolic, the power of the tsunami brought a cargo boat in the middle of a neighborhood.( the picture as an high viewpoint}
Another represantation of the difficult moments Japan is living, their streets are covered in mud.( the picture as an high viewpoint}

TOUCHING PEOPLE

  1. This project is really interesting because adds more spirit to the art of portrait-making, it is unpredictable how strangers relate to each other and, specially, how they would pose for these pictures
  2. I would participate and I would take a picture with a stranger
  3. "fake a laugh", I think this would be a fun project because you can pose as you want, it would be hilarious.
  4. I don't think he used a specific rule of photography in every single picture, but the subjects are always on focus ane there is little blur so he probably used a medium speed shutter.

Types of Magazine Cover

1)Early Magazines Covers:almost always paintings, ethical or religious

2)The Poster Cover:

  15. #32 informal
  16. #36 formal
  17. #37 informal
  18. # 37( all three of them) informal
My favorite  cover is #6:

(September 24, 2001)
New Yorker Covers Editor Franoise Mouly repositioned Art Spiegelmans silhouettes, inspired by Ad Reinhardt's black-on-black paintings, so that the north tower's antenna breaks the "W" of the magazine's logo. Spiegelman wanted to see the emptiness, and find the awful/awe-filled image of all that disappeared the on 9/11. The silhouetted Twin Towers were printed in a fifth, black ink, on a field of black made up of the standard four color printing inks. An overprinted clear varnish helps create the ghost images that linger, insisting on their presence through the blackness.

I think this is a very strong cover because it shows the emptiness of the world after 9/11; this all-black cover is the symbol of what 9/11 left us, a dark hole in our souls that has the cruelty of certain men inside.
The TWIN TOWERS are in relief and they stand out the cover.
However, the cover has no "photographic" features, is more than an emotional cover

Magazine Cover

The main point is to sell as many magazine as you can, so the magazine cover is what attracts us to buy a certain magazine.
One of the most important things is to make the buyer curious, so a magazine cover should have:
  1. lot of contrast between colors(not necessarily a lot of colors)  to emerge from the book-shield and therefore the competition
  2. many little captions in order to let the buyer know what the magazine is about and give him just a little taste of the article so that he needs to buy it if he wants to know the all story
  3. a strong picture
  4. a good title
  5. and the price visible because, especially if the magazine is chip, the buyer already knows whether to buy or not

Portraits and Self-Portrait tips and ideas

  1. Think about your motivation and emotions: Blankly staring at the camera rarely gets good results. Be silly, don’t be afraid to over-act. The worst that can happen is that you fill up your memory card with useless photos; but you might also find yourself with a proper gold-nugget of a self portrait.
  2. Have fun with it. Be sexy. Be yourself. Be awesome. Be different. Be creative. Whatever you do, have fun with it. That’s part of the point, after all.
  3. There are several ways to be unobtrusive. The first thing, of course, is to determine what you want to photograph. Perhaps you see a stall in a market that is particularly colorful, a park bench in a beautiful setting—whatever has attracted you. Find a place to sit or stand that gives you a good view of the scene, take up residence there, and wait for the elements to come together in a way that will make your image.
ENVIRONMENTAL PORTRAIT
This  is the first environmental picture that I chose. I really like it because it took a lot of work to come up with such an idea and it is a really rare subject in circulation.

In this other picture I like the fact that is a black & white picture of a woman working in China.
It made me suddenly feel how difficult is the life in the rural parts of China.
It is a really powerful picture.

SELF-PORTRAIT

I like this portrait of Robert Mapplethorpe, because looks like is being himself:he is just smoking a cigarette with a confusing expression.

Now, I like this portrait because the photographer used a mirror which is always effective in taking these kind of pics.
I think she has done a really good job.

CASUAL PORTRAITS

This portrait is awesome. This little kid pose for this picture and it made the portrait so simple and sweet with the innocence of a baby.

I really like this portrait for the background; the photographer did a great job in including 4 guys in an environmental portrait making it look like an elaborate picture.

WHAT I WILL DO
I want to shoot a self -portrait because I can work with the imagination, since I don't have to include random people. I will try to use a mirror effect, including a mirror or even a window.I would take this picture in the hall.

The other option is to make an environmental portrait in the yard. I will use nature to come up with a good print.

WELCOME BACK

Those are my three favorite pictures of 2010:
*the first one of Ki's temple, reflects the breath taking view of the himalayan beltand the calm and peaceful life that ,those people who belong there, have.
*the one on the left is a very emotional picture; I really like it because it shows how even in the hardest time family is always there for you.
*the last one is very scenic, and it impressed me because it tells me how nature is strong

  1. "Neutron Star Collision by the Muse". Ireally like this song because it has a good rythm and its lyrics are very emotional.
  2. The 2010 movie that I prefer ( and that I actually watched) is the A-Team, because is full of action and the actors starred their characters greatly.
  3.
  4. the most important person of 2010 is KIM-YU-NI, because even if she was tortured by her government, she kept believing in her thoughts .It becoame a international case and now she is free and she keeps spreading her word.
  5. the biggest sport person of 2010 is Jose Mourinho. He was the 2009/2010 F.C INTER's headcoach and he won all that he could with them : Serie A, Champions League, Coppa Italia ( the famous tripletta)

NOW MY HOLIDAY
  1. Having Christmas with another family ( my host family) is a thing that I will always remember.
  2. Finish this fantastic year in the U.S then go back to Italy and keep going with my usual life( always thinking about what I will do in the future)
  3. In 2011, I would really like to travel the States
